(Many years later...)

Shira (narrating): Ten times the rains had come and gone, and I often stopped by to see how Melody the Girl-Cub was getting along. She was a favorite of all the young wolf-dog pups of the pack.

(Melody shows up now as a young girl, howling to her wolf-dog family. The older pups come up and lick her face.)

Shira: (narrating) No girl-cub was ever happier. And yet, I knew that, someday, she would have to go back to her own kind.

(Much later, it is dark out and a full moon is in the sky. Brainy Barker, leader of the pack has called the dog council and Shira to talk about something important.)

Shira: (narrating) Then, one night, the dog pack elders met at Council Rock, because Zira, the lioness, had returned to their part of the jungle. This meeting was to change the girl-cub's entire future.

Brainy: Zira will surely kill the girl, and all who'll try to protect her. Now, are we all in agreement as to what must be done? (The elders all nod their heads.) Now it is my unpleasant duty to tell the girl's mother. Jenna. Come over here please.

Jenna: Yes, Brainy?

Brainy: The council has reached it's decision. The girl-cub can no longer stay with the pack. She must leave at once.

Jenna: (surprised) Leave?!

Brainy: I'm sorry, Jenna. There is no other way.

Jenna: But--But the girl-cub is.. well, she's like my own daughter. Surely, she's entitled to the protection of the pack.

Brainy: But Jenna, even the strength of the pack is no match for the lioness.

Jenna: But the girl can't survive alone in the jungle!

Shira: Brainy. Perhaps I can be of help.

Brainy: You, Shira? How?

Shira: I know of a girl-village where she'll be safe. Melody and I have taken many walks in the jungle together. I'm sure she'll go with me.

Brainy: So be it. Now there's no time to lose. Good luck.
